Spectrum Restoration

director: Felippe Mussel
original title: Espectro Restauración
country: Brazil
year: 2022
running time: 7 min.

More than 30% of Brazil's Pantanal biome was affected by fires between the years 2018 and 2021 due to unscrupulous agribusiness. Felippe Mussel's experimental film consists of a sound spectrogram of these fires, from which a fragment of the Ecuadorian constitution gradually emerges, granting nature the same rights as humans.

“Nature has a right to renewal.”

Felippe Mussel (* 1984) is a sound engineer, filmmaker, and professor. He has done the sound for over 40 Brazilian films and his work has earned him several awards for Best Sound. He is noted for creating the feature-length documentary A Place to Take Away (Em busca de um lugar comum, 2012), which was screened at more than 20 international film festivals. He is a lecturer for the Department of Social Communication at the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro.
