synopsis

This essay on the administrative processing of a person’s death and the workings of institutions in general is framed by shots of the Prague Astronomical Clock and accompanied by Ernest Gold’s score for the film Exodus (1960). A documentary project by second-year students of the Department of Film Directing.

biography

Rudolf Růžička (1943–2022) graduated from FAMU with a degree in film and television directing in 1968. While there, he also directed the films O kočkách, beatnicích a všeličems jiném (About Cats, Beatniks and All Sorts of Other Things, 1966) and Bitva na Červeném poli (The Battle of Červené Pole, 1968). He worked for Czechoslovak (later Czech) Television and in the 1990s as deputy director of the Office for Foreign Relations and Information intelligence service.
