Marta Andreu runs Walden, a space for creating and reflecting on cinema, and teaches workshops, seminars and lectures internationally. She is a tutor and expert at Eurodoc, Torino FilmLab, Open Doors and Biennale College, and has led cross-disciplinary labs on portrait, landscape and memory in Spain, Chile, Portugal and Colombia. Previously, she coordinated the Master in Creative Documentary at UPF in Barcelona (2000–2016), led the DocMontevideo pitching workshop (2009–2024) and served on the World Cinema Fund jury (2010–2025).
In 2004, she founded the production company Playtime, through which she produced internationally awarded documentaries such as “Cuchillo de palo” by Renate Costa (Berlinale, 2010), “Last Chapter” by Peter Torbiörnsson (IDFA, 2011) and “Oleg” by Andrés Duque (IFFR, 2015). Over time, her focus has shifted from production to supporting the creative processes of others and reflecting on the nature of cinema and creation. In 2025, she published her first book, “El cazador de mariposas” (The Butterfly Catcher), and in early 2026 she earned her PhD from the University of the Arts London, borrowing the term solastalgia from environmental philosophy to reflect on the loss of a sense of belonging to images. She is currently working on a project that explores the creation of moving images as a process of grieving.
