synopsis
The fractured walls of unfinished houses in the filmmaker’s hometown become screens for images of family life crushed by punishing labour. The digitally resurrected voice of a “white glove” – an intermediary between Chinese authorities, banks and investors – recounts a life that came to a tragic end with the collapse of the property market.“My uncle was the ‘maverick’ of our family and at times a source of crises. biography
Liang Jingyuan has a background in Film Directing from the Central Academy of Drama and Visual Anthropology from Goldsmiths, University of London. Her work focuses on personal cinema and oral history, with a particular concern for women’s experiences and body politics. She often works at the intersection of reality and fiction, combining ethnography, self-narration, and field observation to explore the perception and ethical boundaries of cinematic creation.
Ye Shizhao focuses on film archives and the study of Asian essay cinema. He engages in artistic practice through the treatment of narrative forms and political texts in moving images. Currently, he is a PhD student in Contemporary Visual Culture Practice at Taiwan National University of Arts.
