The questions that emerge against the backdrop of photographic images of natural and urban landscapes composed of multiple layers lead viewers to seek the position from which this text speaks. Is it asking a man who has survived a disaster but lost his memory? Or is he a humanized machine, saturated with the visual traces of civilization? The short essay here is an adaptation of the 360° film where…, which Ji.hlava IDFF presented as part of the Virtual Reality section in 2022.“The film shows the effects of the impending climate catastrophe and deals with the non-linearity of our thoughts and memories.” (Source)
biography
German director, photographer and educator Thomas Kutschker (born 1963) explores the impact and power of images in his work. He thematises memory and the ability to perceive, but also curiosity and fear. In his film essays, documentaries and experimental films, he combines visual traces from different sources and experiments with sound. Ji.hlava IDFF has screened several of his films, most recently where… (2022), Beyond the Mirror Rim (2016) and Financial Locations (Global Mash Up) (2015).more about film
