We have launched a new project! Its aim is to support the distribution of documentary films and also to care for the Ji.hlava audience. Everyone who buys an accreditation will get exclusive online access to one film per month. All films will be subtitled in Czech.
Film of the month: Pistachio Wars
Pistachios as a political nut. The United States is the largest producer of pistachios in the world. Growing them in California consumes huge amounts of water, which is scarce in this region. This investigative film reveals the story of California's drying landscape, the struggle for water rights and corporate influence. The film engagingly connects personal accounts to the broader geopolitical context and asks what we are willing to sacrifice for profit. "I'm shocked when I compare images from the past - lush wetlands with abundant bird life - with today's landscapes destroyed by industrial agriculture," says director Rowan Wernham of his film, which was awarded a special mention for best testimony to knowledge at last year's Ji.hlava.
The movie will be available after you log in with your account with a valid accreditation. You can buy an accreditation here.
