Confession

Confession

Pavol Sýkora / Czechoslovakia / 1968 / 16 min.

synopsis

A prison film with a touch of Existentialism follows daily routines of a young woman and her fellow inmates: gatherings at the yard, work, hygiene, and quiet stares out of the barred window. Her fate was sealed long before she committed any crime because neither her family, nor our society could give her a hand when she needed it.

biography

Pavol Sýkora (1931-1970) was one of the most important dramaturges in Slovak documentary filmmaking. In addition to the film Confession, his most important films include a portrait of Vladimir Dzurilla entitled Goalkeeper (co-directed by Rudolf Urc, 1965) and ABCD (1969), about the life of a young teacher at a rural school.
