I Haven’t Smoke My Last Cigar Yet
Professor Josef Koutecký founded, built up and institutionalised a brand new medical field – paediatric oncology – first in Czechoslovakia, later in the Czech Republic. He has been the head of a clinic, a dean and a vice-chancellor and has trained a vast number of paediatric oncologists. But this documentary is not about him as a professor but rather about him as a man. It is not about his successes but about love and faith. It is not about an elderly man but about someone who has always stood upright.

In today’s world where everything depends on money, environmentally-unfriendly imports of goods and endless price increases, the only thing that can save us, according to experts on long-term sustainability, is local self-sufficiency. For decades now in the West, local systems with their own rules and currency, known as LETS, short for Local Exchange Trading Systems, have been in operation. The first LETS system in the Czech Republic was set up over ten years ago, and now there are several of them.

A short film about a small, family-owned non-profit organisation that is helping in one of the poorest countries in the world. Thanks to their close cooperation with Carmelite missions that form more or less the only long-term stable structure in the Central African Republic, SIRIRI has been able to get close to specific people and problems. The documentary is part of the series “Czechs On A Mission”, which has the goal of presenting various types of Czech humanitarian and development aid throughout the world.

Starting with the story of Jiří Kubalík’s experience with the ruthless owner of a building in which he has lived for years, the film explores the issue of real estate speculation. Prague is home to many similar decaying buildings, many of whose owners are impossible to find, which are a blemish on the city’s face, and which become a refuge for crime. A film about the conflict between public interest and private ownership.

Form 8.A
A problematic, underachieving Czech class is taken over by new teachers who have the ambition and desire to change the situation. For one semester, we follow the emotion-filled story, told from the point of view of both the students and the teachers. Will the students and their new teachers succeed? How will the confrontation between the new teachers and the existing teachers pan out? Czech Television presents an innovative format based on the hugely successful Swedish docu-reality show that should open up public debate on the topic of student motivation and the quality of education at the upper primary level.

FilmHELPLESSNESS points out the problems of working for big retail chains, including unpaid overtime, multitasking and allowing no breaks. It also gives evidence of the fear of the workers; they will not defend each other, they are afraid to enter the trade unions; which allows the big companies to treat them so bad.
