synopsis
An urban landscape observed by an unmoving camera creates an arresting contemplation of the awakening city. The morning routines include exercising in the park, newspaper deliveries, heavy traffic. Scenes from different environments show the age, social, and religious diversity of society.
biography
Taiwanese filmmaker Ching-Jui Pai (1931) studied filmmaking in Italy for two years. After returning to his home country, he made six feature-length films. The film presented here remained unscreened for decades due to difficulties with the former Taiwanese Central Motion Picture Corporation.
